Summary

This study investigated heavy metal leaching and ecological toxicity when coal bottom ash (CBA) was used to reduce erosion and turbidity at construction sites. Trace amounts of copper were detected in the leaching tests, and acute toxicity tests using Daphnia magna showed insignificant ecological toxicity. Consequently, the use of CBA for turbidity control at construction sites is expected to have no adverse environmental impacts.
