This paper provides a preliminary consideration for the discussion of the starting point of Korean modern literature in the 1970s, analyzing the situation in 1968 where the term 'Shinmunhak' (New Literature) was still used. By cross-reading the literary histories of Im Hwa, Baek Cheol, and Cho Yeon-hyeon, it reveals that concepts such as 'transplantation' and 'backwardness' contributed to the formation of the self-image of Korean modern literature.
