Summary

This study aimed to provide basic data for successful kindergarten-to-elementary school transition by analyzing the longitudinal effects of parental nurturing behavior and young children’s social competence on school adjustment. The results showed that the mother’s affectionate and controlling parenting behavior influenced school adjustment through the mediation of the child’s social competence. Parental nurturing behavior, excluding the father’s controlling parenting, had both direct and indirect effects on the child’s social competence and school adjustment.
