Summary

This study explored the motivations of pre-service early childhood teachers for choosing the teaching profession and the factors influencing their decision through in-depth interviews with 67 freshman majoring in early childhood education. The analysis revealed five categories of motivations: “attraction of teaching profession,” “joy with young children,” “influence from others,” “aptitudes and abilities,” and “situational factors.” The study suggests the need for programs that help pre-service teachers recognize the value of teaching, experience positive interactions with children, and increase their interest and satisfaction in their major.
