Summary

This study investigated the concepts of major mismatch perceived by science and engineering university students and their experiences according to changes in major mismatch perception. Survey results categorized major mismatch into six domains, including ‘mismatch between major and characteristics’ and ‘mismatch between major and expected career.’ Changes in major mismatch perception were identified as four types: ‘increase,’ ‘decrease,’ ‘maintain,’ and ‘maintain match.’ Analysis of experiences across groups revealed that academic-related topics were most frequent, which can be utilized in career counseling for students experiencing major mismatch.
