Summary

This study investigated how Chinese learners' ability to discriminate Korean vowels develops according to their proficiency level through behavioral and brain response investigations. The results showed no difference in behavioral responses between the two groups, but MMN responses were observed only in the advanced learners, indicating that neurological sensitivity increases with proficiency development. This suggests that adult learners are capable of acquiring the phonological system of a second language.
