Summary

This paper analyzes the regional genealogy of spy films that have continued since the end of the Cold War. Originating from imperialist competition and national interests, spy films served to spread cultural hegemony during the Cold War and began to address diverse enemies such as capitalists and terrorist groups, along with the identity confusion of spies, after the end of the Cold War. In particular, East Asia has seen the emergence of spy films combined with postcolonial contexts and conflicts between nations, and Korean spy films emphasize partnership and trust-building narratives for resolving North-South Korean relations.
