Summary

This paper explores psychiatry and psychotic treatment in early twentieth century Britain through Virginia Woolf's *Mrs. Dalloway*, discussing the physical meaning of an individual within the context of illness-induced spatial boundaries. Traumatic neurosis experienced by WWI soldiers was often attributed to individual failings rather than the war itself, causing further suffering, and the pressure for national reconstruction exerted social violence upon individuals.
