Summary

This study sociolinguistically investigated Korean speakers’ language attitudes and cognitive patterns toward fortis pronunciation, as well as its causes. The results showed that Korean speakers have negative attitudes toward fortis pronunciation but selectively use it in actual speech, with tendencies varying by age and gender. These findings suggest a high possibility of fortis pronunciation spreading and that Korean speakers hold a dual attitude toward it.
