Summary
This study analyzed the psychological distance between Korean mothers-in-law and foreign daughters-in-law based on the television program “Story of Multicultural Mothers-in-Law and Daughters-in-Law” using construal level theory in terms of spatial and social distance. The results showed that communication inconvenience due to language differences, mothers-in-law’s consideration leading to discomfort, evasive Korean conversational styles, and mothers-in-law’s strong attachment to their sons were major factors forming psychological distance.
