Summary

Hwangbok Buddhist Temple was founded in the middle ancient period of Silla by Queen Seondeok to transform Mt. Nang from a folk religion site to a Buddhist sacred mountain, serving as the royal family's Wondang. While its importance grew with the construction of a stone pagoda for King Sinmun and his tomb, it declined with the establishment of Seongjeon temples, and was later revitalized through King Gyeongmun's Buddhist policies and the installation of Seongjeon.
