Summary

This study analyzed the current status of children’s and youth book selection in the ‘One book, One city movement’ implemented in 36 regions as of 2018, and investigated the relationship between popularity, community orientation, and the book selection process. Fairy tales and picture books were frequently selected for children, while literature and non-fiction were preferred for youth, and recent fairy tale selections are becoming more diverse, but youth novels and non-fiction tend to concentrate on specific authors and works.
