Summary
This study investigated the moderating effects of children’s temperament (negative emotionality, activity, and sociability) on the relationship between maternal parenting stress and children’s behavior problems. The results showed that the association between parenting stress and behavior problems was stronger for children with high negative emotionality and activity, and low sociability. These findings support a diathesis-stress model, suggesting that negative temperament traits increase vulnerability to behavior problems in high-stress families.
