Summary

This paper reveals that questions about character education stem from the perspective of duty ethics, a core idea of act-based ethics, and demonstrates that character education is indistinguishable from existing ethics education when viewed through this lens. Character education becomes clearly defined when understood from the viewpoint of virtue ethics, and its necessity and direction can be properly explained within that framework.
