Summary

This study analyzes the 2018 history education curriculum reform in Taiwan following the 12-Year National Education. Specifically, the adoption of a ‘Taiwan, China & East Asia, and World’ three sub-domain structure in middle and high school history courses led to a significant reduction in Chinese history content, which is expected to contribute to ‘De-Sinicization’. The analysis reveals that, contrary to the Education Ministry’s claim, the revised history curriculum intends to achieve ‘De-Sinicization’ through ‘global thinking’ and the three sub-domain structure.
