Summary

This study analyzes the image signification and miseenscene in TV political advertisements of the 19th presidential election to identify the candidates’ image strategies. Moon Jae-in’s ‘Photographer’ ad portrayed an image of a president empathizing with the people, while Hong Jun-pyo’s ‘Common People’s President’ ad depicted an image of a president for the common people through visual miseenscene. The results show that the TV advertisements reflected social backgrounds such as the Sewol Ferry incident and the impeachment of Park Geun-hye, continuing the trend of image advertisements that capture voters’ attention.
