Summary

NREX, an upper limb rehabilitation robot, was developed to assist individuals with weak muscular strength and control, with three passive joints added to improve shoulder movement and wearability. Measurements of force and torque during reaching movements with 20 able-bodied subjects showed a 31.6% reduction in upper limb force and a 48.9% reduction in torque with the addition of the passive joints.
