This study explores how genre is perceived and addressed in writing education at the elementary and middle school levels, distinguishing between ‘activity-based’ and ‘cultural form-based’ writing types. While the current Korean curriculum focuses on the activity-based approach, a cultural form-based education can foster creative writing, emphasizing the importance of selecting cultural forms aligned with educational goals and ideals.
