This study analyzed the meaning and essence of the caregiving experience of spouses of patients with Parkinson's disease through in-depth interviews. The analysis revealed five themes: ‘shock’, ‘acceptance of caregiving’, ‘caregiver burnout’, ‘social relationship’, and ‘hope’. The caregiving experience of a Parkinson’s disease spouse was found to be a process of overcoming difficulties through love and pursuing family eternity. The study suggests the need for social welfare support and inclusion in psychological counseling and mental health areas for spouses.
