Summary

This study aims to analyze the factors affecting the severity of daytime and nighttime pedestrian crashes from a microscopic perspective and to derive policy implications. Analysis of data from the Traffic Accident Analysis System (TAAS) from 2015 to 2017 revealed that population density, traffic volume, and characteristics of young and elderly drivers influenced crash severity. Furthermore, road characteristics (number of lanes, bus-only lane crosswalks, etc.) were found to have different effects on crash severity between daytime and nighttime.
