Summary

This study analyzed the factors affecting depression among the working poor, including income, health, housing, working ability, and drinking. The results showed that health factors had the greatest impact on depression for both genders, and drinking was a factor influencing depression among female working poor. This suggests that experiences of labor market exclusion and feelings of helplessness can combine with alcohol consumption to exacerbate depression.
