이 교과목은 20세기말 이후 한국 사회와 문화의 흐름과 특징에 대한 이해를 목표로 삼는다. 현대 한국인들의 일상생활을 살펴보기 전에 한국의 역사적 배경을 개관할 것이다. 그러고 나서 문학, 영화, TV, 신문, 잡지, 광고, 스포츠, 백화점, 놀이공원 등 다양한 문화와 삶의 현장에 드러나는 한국인의 삶에 대해 조사할 것이다. 특히 급속도로 변화하는 세계에 한국인들이 어떻게 대응하고 적응하며 살아왔는지에 관해 중점을 둔다. 민속촌이나 놀이공원, 쇼핑몰 등 교과목과 관련이 있는 현장을 방문하거나 행사에 참여할 예정이다.

본 과목은 중급 정도의 중국어 능력을 갖춘 학생들이 다양한 매체를 통해 입체적으로 중국 관련 정보와 지식을 습득 이해할 수 있게 만든다. 각종 미디어를 통해 제공되는 다양한 중국어 자료를 보고 듣고 분석함으로써 중국어 수준을 높임은 물론 중국어권 국가의 사회와 문화에 대한 이해를 넓히고 분석능력을 배양시킨다. 중국의 현실에 관심이 많고 장차 중국을 활동 영역으로 삼고자 하는 학생들에게 필수적인 과목이다.
