Summary

This study explored the understanding of characters through the minds of characters among senior elementary school learners by analyzing their appreciation texts. The results showed that learners tended to fail to connect a character's actions with their mind, relying on intuitive impressions, excessive identification, or dichotomous judgments based on moral norms. This suggests an obstacle to in-depth character understanding and self-reflection, highlighting the need for educational approaches that emphasize ethical consideration of the connection between action and mind.
