Summary

This study aims to clarify the meaning, function, and grammatical characteristics of '-ulkel', and investigates the relationship between the meanings of speculation and regret. '-ulkel' exhibits polysemy through event and epistemic modality, and is expressed as either event modality or epistemic modality depending on the controllability of the situation. Furthermore, '-ulkel' can express regret in counterfactual conditionals, which is related to past choice possibilities.
