Summary

This study aims to provide a more reasonable method for calculating NH3 emissions by measuring ammonia (NH3) fluxes from soil surface and plant canopy in a red pepper field using the dynamic chamber method. Comparing seasonal NH3 emissions using soil surface and plant canopy chambers, ammonia estimated by the soil surface chamber method was 36.4% and by the plant canopy chamber method was 24.1% of the total nitrogen applied. The lower NH3 emission in the plant canopy chamber method than in the soil surface chamber method is attributed to the absorption of NH4+ and/or NH3 by plants.
