Summary

This study explores the characteristics of ‘mourning space’ where survivors fully mourn and overcome sorrows, expanding the meaning of life, by combining Merleau-Ponty's phenomenology and Derrida's mourning theory. Case analyses, including the Holocaust Museum, were conducted to reveal the possibility of a space that experientially overcomes sadness related to loss, beyond existing memorial spaces. The analysis confirmed the possibility of a space that visualizes ‘death’ and elicits feelings of mourning through the participation of visitors.
