Summary

This study examines the characteristics of the concept of ‘civilization’ by period, using a Word2Vec methodology on articles from modern enlightenment magazines published between 1906 and 1910. Analysis of the co-occurrence frequency and importance of terms related to ‘civilization’ revealed that its significance rose until 1908 and then declined sharply after 1909. Based on these changes, the meaning field of ‘civilization’ is categorized into social evolutionism, the economic field, self-cultivation, and art.
