Summary
This article analyzes the populist politics of Babiš and ANO in the Czech Republic from the perspective of ‘managerial populism,’ which is a strategy based on the rationality and efficiency of management to appeal for popular support. Czech populism emerged from the political legacy of the former communist regime and the erosion of liberal democratic legitimacy due to globalization, weakening the legitimacy of existing parties and civil society and disregarding democratic political processes. Consequently, Babiš' managerial populism leads to the regression of Czech democracy.
