Summary

This study analyzes 17 beginner Japanese textbooks used by universities, focusing on the frequency and learner interest related to Japanese cultural materials. The results show high frequencies of language, travel, and food materials, while annual events and administrative districts appeared more often than learner interest suggested. The study emphasizes the need to develop practical and educational Japanese textbooks that reflect changing learner perceptions and cultural interests in Japan.
