Summary

This study explored the roles of cognitive and affective empathy in the development of theory of mind in young children. The results showed a significant difference in theory of mind development between 4 and 5 year olds, with cognitive empathy partially influencing theory of mind, while affective empathy did not have a significant impact. This suggests that cognitive and affective empathy play different roles in understanding theory of mind.
