Summary

This study empirically analyzed that newcomer turnover negatively affects organizational performance through turnover contagion within the organization. The strategic orientation of the HR function was found to mitigate the relationship between newcomer turnover and organizational-level turnover. The analysis of 331 companies in the Human Capital Corporate Panel confirmed that newcomer turnover promotes organizational-level turnover and impairs firm performance.
