Summary

This study analyzes the content elements and participation methods of textbooks recognized for democratic citizenship education to derive implications for educational activities that promote students' social participation practice. The analysis revealed that the recognized textbooks start from a cognitive approach and aim to promote students' entry into social participation through a participatory approach, ultimately leading to a more justice-oriented approach. These findings suggest that teachers should act as facilitators to increase social participation practice based on a participatory approach and develop activities that foster co-agency with students.
