Summary

This study analyzes the impact of smart specialisation on the local economy, viewing it as an institutional element of regional innovation capabilities and examining industry related and non-related variety. Using panel data from 16 cities and provinces in Korea, the analysis revealed that smart specialisation has a positive effect on the local economy. Furthermore, existing regional innovation capabilities also contribute positively to the local economy.
