Summary

This study critically reflects on the current state of suffrage education in social studies and proposes alternative instructional approaches in response to the growing demand for expanded youth suffrage. The research found that existing classes are characterized by limited political competence, avoidance of real politics, and lack of resources, and to address these issues, a checklist based on ‘inclusive neutrality’ and five alternative instruction examples for cultivating students’ political competence were developed.
