This study explores the development directions and key features of the 2022 revised middle school “Social Studies” Geography curriculum. The main development directions include a shift from systematic geography to regional geography, a learning sequence of world geography followed by Korean geography, and an emphasis on competency and citizenship through geography education. Key features of the curriculum include enhancing the connection between elementary, middle, and high school geography, considering student development, emphasizing location knowledge, promoting multi-layered regional understanding, strengthening values-attitudes, and emphasizing geographical skills.
