Multiple Myeloma Cell Drug Responses Differ in Thermoplastic vs PDMS Microfluidic Devices

Author
Moore, Thomas A.; Brodersen, Peter; Young, Edmond W. K.
Journal Title
Analytical Chemistry
Publication Year
2024
Summary

This study investigated the impact of microfluidic device material on drug responses in multiple myeloma cells, finding that PDMS devices exhibit higher drug absorption compared to thermoplastic devices, leading to bias in cytotoxicity measurements. ToF-SIMS analysis revealed significantly deeper drug absorption in PDMS, correlating with altered IC50 values. These results highlight the importance of material selection in microfluidic device design for accurate drug cytotoxicity assessments.
